North of Division X
I was chilling, enjoying the live show at the 2009, Black August event at BB kings in New York City. Later on I was at the back stage
and I ran into North who is the member of the Bronx rap group,
Division X, which also consist of Mad Dogg & Dj Doctor Dust. He was the only member of his crew that came out just to see the live event. I decided to interview him anyway since he is part of the movement that I call the Underground Industry

Viktory: How did Division X started ? North:We knew each other since we were kids being ass holes at the park fooling around. After that we met Dj Dust cause he use to dj at jams with his cousin and I was a little mother fucker. I was not allowed at the jams but I tagged along anyway. Mad Dogg use to
carry the equipment for Dust & his cousin. We notice among each other that we have a real love for hip hop so we decided to form Division X.

Viktory: What does Division X brings to the table as far as content?
North: What we bring to the table is the truth of living in the world ,
the truth of living in the urban environment, we bring the truth of living period but from
a man hood perspective not from a kid's perspective. Our talk is man hood talk. Once you become a man and know how it is to be a
man then you will realize what we are talking about.

Viktory: Being that we live in the internet age, do you think it is
more easy for a unsigned recording artist to blow up compare to ten
years ago? North: It depends on what is your perspective of blowing up, everyone has their own perspective of blowing up. The internet
does give an artist the opportunity to get their music out there , and it gives an artist options on how to promote music.

Viktory: Do you & your group produce ya own beats or do ya deal
with a group of producers? North: Well we produce for ourselves
because we did not like the beats that people was giving us. Therefore
the majority of our beats is done by us , but we don’t try to keep ourselves in house. If an outside producer has some hot shit that we can put our energy on then we will rock with what that producer has made for us.

Viktory: So what is up with Division X as far as projects that ya did &
Projects that ya working on? North: Well the project Attack Mode is
our album that you can only get if you are one of our Myspace friends.
The second album, “ The hardcore Institute is our second album that
you can get from us hand to hand. We are about to put it out on
itunes. We sold over 7,000 units in the streets alone between
New York, Philly , Baltimore , Philly , Boston & New Hampshire.
Currently we are working on our third album called
“Rude Boy Swagga”.

Viktory: I remember seeing ya perform a couple of times and ya shows is of the hook so in that thought in mind , what motivates the group
before performing a show. North: What motivates us is the fact that
our fans paid $10 - $15 to come see us perform. Mother fuckers
want to get their money worth. A lot of people complain that they did not get their money worth because they seen some wack nigger perform that does not happen with Division X. You may say other niggers is wack but not Division X. The best compoment that we ever
got was when this dude who seen us perform said to us that “ya cats
killed the stage so much that I felt that I should of paid more money”
and that statement stuck with me ever since.

Viktory: Since Division X is from the Bronx which is the birth place of hip hop, do ya feel that ya have to go harder? North: Well we go
harder regardless. Being from The Bx or any part of the world don’t
mean nothing because we are from the planet earth bottom line
territories don’t mean shit.

Viktory: Is Division X searching for a record deal or do ya rather stay independent? North:
man slavery was over in the 1800’s( ha ha ha)
fuck that label shit. In order for us to get sign to a label the label
themselves have to put some proposals on the table so we can use their marketing money to promote our name then we bounce after a year. I am not
going to stay in a label for the rest of my life that means that Im going to get pimped for the rest of my life. For the most part we rather stay independent.
